I began enhancing my personal energy level three months shy of my 40th birthday and after 2 years of struggling with clinically-diagnosed depression. During this same period, I was challenged, immensely by the debilitating effects of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and being rendered permanently partially disabled as the result of being involved in two car accidents in six days (neither of which was I at fault). I recall an incredible sense of emptiness and a daunting feeling of being completely overwhelmed; especially when trying to figure out which pills went with what ills. Unable to return to the vocation I loved, I received disability payments and simply existed. Most of my time was spent in bed where I eventually became 48 pounds "over-fat." When dreams and reasons for living are wiped out by the greatest, of the least unexpected, most people priorities typically change. My priorities? Well, they just disappeared. I was defeated physically, emotionally, psychologically, spiritually and knocking on "Financially's" door. Making the... Read More
Goal-pool with friends or acquaintances Get together with a group of friends or co-workers and host a logistical brainstorming party where all the invitees lay out the goals they'd like help with and make plans to meet them, with the help of the rest of the group. The result might look something like this: Every Monday the whole crew gets together for a half-hour after work to help Barbara make fund-raising calls for her charity (and in exchange, everyone gets invited to the hoity-toity, networking-heaven Christmas party held to thank the donors and volunteers). On Wednesdays, Bob hosts a scrap-booking dinner where he provides the food in exchange for mooching supplies, equipment and techniques from his more scrap-savvy cohorts. On Sundays, June hosts a brunch where everybody eats high on the hog in exchange for honest feedback on her catering recipes and presentation/marketing ideas. Continue goal-pooling until everyone involved has met their goals ? unless everyone decides to keep going and move on... Read More
Knowing yourself is the foundation of self-esteem, self confidence and personal development. Man has been seeking himself since the days of the Oracle of Delphi. "Know yourself" said the Oracle, but she spoke in riddles and the men who had come a long way to get a simple answer from her wise lips went away even more confused.Yes, it isn't easy to really understand a human being. And, to understand others, we need first of all to understand ourselves and to gain self-esteem and confidence. How can we do this? There are ways to work on this and we can do it in the comfort of our home if we don't want to attend evening courses in self confidence and self-esteem and meet others in similar situations. Some tips: * Write down your positive achievements, all that you can remember; educations, jobs, loves and relationships (even if they ended, you still achieved them), friendships, children, driving licence... Look at what you already have and realize... Read More
Why is goal setting important? Because without goals you don't go anywhere!Whenever you see anything worthwhile being done anywhere, it's because someone is behind it with a passion, a belief and a goal! When it comes to your personal life and your business, goal setting can make the difference between mediocrity and excellence and accomplishment.Much is said about goal setting. But just how do you set and accomplish goals? Is there some goal setting formula or strategy that can be employed to increase your chances of success?Thankfully, YES!What follows is a blueprint for success in goal setting. The Goal Setting BlueprintSTEP 1. Develop a DESIRE to achieve the goal. The desire must be intense. How do you intensify desire? Sit down and write out all the benefits and advantages of achieving your goal. Once the list goes between 50 and 100 your goal becomes unstoppable.STEP 2. WRITE your goal down. Once it goes into writing it becomes substantial and starts etching itself into your subconscious.STEP 3. IDENTIFY... Read More
Examine your own personal goals and find methods to achieve your desires with these valuable quotations about setting goals..."The most important thing about having goals is having one."-- Geoffrey F. Abert"It takes a little courage, and a little self-control. And some grim determination, If you want to reach the goal. It takes a deal of striving, and a firm and stern-set chin. No matter what the battle, If you really want to win. There's no easy path to glory, There's no road to fame. Life, however we may view it, Is no simple parlor game; But it's prizes call for fighting, For endurance and for grit; For a rugged disposition and don't know when to quit."-- Anonymous"No set goal achieved satisfies. Success only breeds a new goal. The golden apple devoured has seeds. It is endless."-- Bette Davis"A goal is a dream that has an ending. "-- Duke Ellington"The timid and fearful first failures dismay, but the stout heart stays trying by night... Read More
Writing goals describes the act of inscribing on a surface characters or shapes that convey thoughts and ideas in relation to that goal. Why is this mechanical act of writing goals so important in the achievement process? Also, what is the best way to approach writing goals for maximum effect?Words are an integral part of the thinking process.Words convey images, pictures, feelings, emotions to the mind.Say to yourself silently "STENCH" and then follow it quickly with "FRAGRANCE" and you will be aware of the different reactions those words produce in your mind. Here is an interesting observation:We can be thinking 'something' without realizing fully what that something is.It is intangible, it is not clearly defined in our mind. But now, start putting that thought into words, try expressing it and an amazing thing starts to happen.By clothing it in words, that abstract thought now takes on body, shape, form, substance. It is no longer just a thought! It becomes something which motivates us, or creates a gut... Read More
With goal objectives in mind, consider the organizers of a marathon race. They take time to mark out the course. The way is planned. Otherwise reaching the finish line would be a matter of chance depending on whether a runner just happened to be in the area to see it!Likewise reaching goal objectives requires planning. It's important to identify obstacles and also how to acquire help.Make a list of possible obstacles and yet another list of knowledge, people or organizations that could help you. Also there is a need for deadlines and the need to make another list of manageable slices or segments leading toward the main goal. The next step involves using all the information gathered from these two previous steps.Combine all these lists and put them in a logical orderLay out the manageable steps in order of progression interweaving the details from your obstacles list and help list.Get a large sketch pad and play around with the order of things until the plan begins... Achieving goals requires persistence. Here's the proof: In 1915 Ty Cobb set up an amazing baseball record of stealing 96 bases. Seven years later Max Carey set the second-best record with 51 stolen bases. Was Cobb twice as good as Carey?Consider this: Cobb made 134 attempts. Carey made 53.So Carey's average was much better.Cobb however made 81 more tries and was rewarded with 44 more stolen bases.Frank Bettger makes this strong point on page 238 of his fascinating classic: How I Raised Myself From Failure To Success In SellingWhen you get behind the big success stories in any given field, you often find the most successful have made more attempts and spent longer hours at the given task than anyone else.In other words, they give the law of averages a chance to work in their favor! They just keep on striking out, often against all odds. With achieving goals, this sterling quality of persistence and its bed-fellow perseverance, is absolutely essential.Yes the previous six steps... Have you set goals, personal or business, and failed to achieve them? Here is a crucial question: WHY?The answer is simple:Because you did not have a strong enough desire. Some may argue with that: "But I did set goals with a strong desire and still I didn't get there!"Sorry, but the desire was still not strong enough. This article is about INTENSE desire. In other words a PASSION.Rocket fuel is powerful. The energy it releases boggles the mind.Intense desire can do the same for humans when they set goals. Are you working on a goal right now?Is it faltering or not progressing as fast as you would like?Analyze the intensity of your desire. How do you identify intense desire, passion? It's what keeps people working all hours, up early, late to bed. It's what fueled Stephen Spielberg from the age of 13 to be a movie director. It's what powered Woopi Goldberg from childhood out of impossible circumstances to be a successful actress. The desire dominates conversation, thinking, actions. How do you... To reach goals, consider this illustration: If you see roadblocks up ahead on a journey you take a diversion. No one in their right mind would just drive on and hit the obstacle head on just hoping they get through!Bypass ResistanceWhen you set a goal and if you are going to successfully reach goals, you need to write down a list of potential obstacles you may face. Are there people who won't understand your goal and discourage you?Do physical limitations or unfavorable circumstances stand in the way? Then list them, analyze them and develop a strategy. With a roadblock you can turn off before you get there or go over, under and around.Do the same with obstacles that may seem to make it impossible for you to reach goals you have set.Is there any way you can bypass the objects of resistance you are likely to face?Preparation like this is invaluable. If and when you reach the obstacle you know what to do.You have already made up...
